Development Overview

Ainsley Gommon was appointed by Wirral Borough Council to undertake the design and implementation of the conversion and extension of a former Girl’s Secondary School science block into a new flagship primary school.

Mount Primary School was relocated from its cramped and outdated site in Hamilton Road, Wallasey. The original Weatherhead science block was only approximately 15 years old but its layout and facilities needed major alteration and re-configuration to make them suitable for use as a new primary school.

The works included:

  • Construction of a new entrance to the building, a new admin area and a multi-purpose hall with an adjoining kitchen.
  • Construction of new toilets, medical room and special needs area.
  • Reconfiguration of all of the original laboratories to form classrooms with cloakroom areas and wet-play facilities in each.
  • Integration of state of the art IT facilities throughout the building.

The remainder of the site was landscaped to form new playgrounds and a car parking area to service the new school.

The project was a success reconfiguring the old science block into a new modern inviting primary school with state of the art facilities, ample external space providing both formal and informal play. The extensions are carefully sited to maximise on their location and relationship with the site, and blend seamlessly with the original structure.
