Development Overview

Ainsley Gommon was commissioned by Cheshire County Council to undertake the design proposals for the refurbishment of the existing performing arts block, to create new dance studios, a drama studio, a new entrance foyer and refurbished music rooms.

The 1960’s drama block had become under-used, out dated and partly fire damaged.

The refurbishment included the design and installation of;

  • Two new dance studios including sprung floors, mirrored walls, dance barres and studio performance lighting
  • Newly fitted out drama studio complete with blackout blinds and studio lighting
    Refurbished existing music rooms with new acoustic ceilings
  • General refurbishment of the foyer areas, entrances and communal areas
  • Replacement windows throughout

As well as new ventilation systems within the performance spaces, the project included refurbishment of the heating system and updated electrical installation.

Part of the block was in use throughout the duration of the works, and consideration for phased working was set up with health and safety as a priority.

The main dance studio has been created within the old school hall. The studio accommodates a new sprung dance floor, audience seating and new studio lighting, which provides a flexible performance space for evening use as well as general teaching facilities.
