Development Overview

The development at Woodhouse Lane, Bodenham provides two new affordable homes for shared ownership for Stonewater Housing Association.

One of the bungalows provides independent living accommodation for a young man with a rare neurological condition, which results in profound disabilities including complex epilepsy and requires a full time care by his Personal Assistant (PA). The bungalow provides a purpose designed and safe environment which includes a bedroom, accessible bathroom, open plan living / dining / kitchen and a second bedroom with desk space for his PA.

The adjacent bungalow provides a home for his parents, allowing them to closely supervise the continuation of the level of care needed by their son, while enabling the gradual phased withdrawal of their input, as and when appropriate.

The design of the bungalows takes inspiration from the surrounding Herefordshire context, with brickwork reflecting the surrounding housing and larch cladding, a common feature of such buildings in the area. The roof has been designed with a ‘catslide’ profile, designed to give adequate headroom at the entrance but whilst maintaining a lower ridge height than a simple pitched roof.
