Development Overview

Located within the Snowdonia National Park, Betws-Y-Coed Primary Care Centre was designed in close consultation with the National Park’s Planning Department and the Environment Agency in order to address a number of on-site challenges, including the presence of a stream running underneath the site entrance, flood risk and accessibility issues.

The building provides the local GP practice with a new Doctors Surgery allowing the residents of Betws-Y-Coed to retain the facility within the local area. Working in partnership with Castlemead Developments, the Surgery provides Treatment and Consulting Rooms along with Nurses and Clerical Support accommodation and Staff areas.

The layout of the building was carefully considered and the distinctive splayed plan form was designed to allow the building to act as a shield between the adjacent houses and the public access and car park. A sympathetic approach was taken to the choice of materials, using traditional Welsh materials of stone, slate and white render allowing the building to complement the surrounding environment. The Surgery succeeds in providing improved medical care for the village of Betws-Y-Coed in a modern, safe and accessible environment.
