Development Overview

A new purpose designed Police Station on an important civic site in the city of Bangor, surrounded by the Town Hall, Public Library and Cathedral and overlooked by the impressive University buildings.

While being a modern design, traditional materials of natural stone, slate, lead sheet and render are used to create a visual link with the surrounding vernacular buildings.

The accommodation is arranged to form a courtyard reflecting the adjacent Town Hall forecourt and enclosed by stone walls and railings, minimising the visual impact of the service vehicle compound.

Visitors approach the Police Station from the city centre through a small landscaped piazza below the entrance to the building.

The scheme involved close liaison with the Design Commission for Wales as part of the development process and feedback helped to inform the final design.
