Construction works are progressing well at Gladstone Library with the new windows now complete and the cupola repair well underway.
Recent works have also focused on the library’s distinctive tower porch, which has now been carefully stabilised to ensure its long term structural integrity and preserve its historic character. In addition, the small dormer windows have been cleaned and restored, with further repairs to the existing historic windows continuing across the building.
The project continues to balance essential repair works with the preservation of the building’s historic fabric. Wherever possible, original materials are being retained and reused, including the relaying of salvaged roof slates and the restoration of cast iron rainwater goods. The project also included specialist ground stabilisation works and drainage improvements to address historic foundation movement..
We look forward to sharing further updates as the next phases of construction are completed.
