We are very pleased to have obtained listed building consent for roof repair works, conservation and restoration to prominent features of the Grade 1 Listed Gladstone’s Library building in Hawarden’s Conservation Area, Flintshire. It is hoped that building works are anticipated to start on site early in the new year.
We are proud to be working on the Grade I listed Gladstone’s Library. It is the UK’s finest residential and only Prime ministerial library, boasting 26 bedrooms, an on-site restaurant, and a comfortable guest lounge. After a thorough quinquennial survey by AGA’s Conservation Architect, Alf Plant, major repairs, and remediation works were recommended to the slate roof and front entrance porch. The proposed works are essential to maintain the Grade I listed building and would negate risk and ensure the building’s sustained use.
A Listed building application consent was required for structural repairs of the entrance porch, major roof repairs and stonework repairs. The existing, deteriorating roof is putting the fabric of the building and its’s valuable collections at significant risk of harm and loss.
The essential works are being carried out to project the library’s vast book collection which is seen as highly vulnerable to water damage.
Being a local practice close to Gladstone library this has been very much a labour of love and the repair and removal works shared ensure this famous library will be enjoyed by many future generations.
