Ainsley Gommon Architects

Colleagues and staff met for the Liverpool Architecture Festival at the Priory in Birkenhead, the oldest standing building on Merseyside, to explore the history of the site, completed works to date and planned future phases. Birkenhead Priory consists of a mixture of Grade 1, 2* & 2 Listed Buildings, on a Scheduled Monument site, hidden away in a small corner of industrial Birkenhead.

Working together with Aura Construction, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council and Wirral Museums Service, Ainsley Gommon Architects have completed 3 phases of work, not only preserving the history of the site and buildings but help remove it from the Heritage at Risk Register. Making it more accessible and inclusive to both the local and wider community, preserving the site for future generations.

Wirral Council have plans for future improvement works as part of a wider masterplan to improve the waterfront with funding from the Government’s Town Deal Scheme.
