Ysgol Y Garnedd, Bangor’s new primary school has been officially handed over to Gwynedd Council in time to welcome pupils after the autumn half term. Built by local contractors Read Construction, the new 420 place school is the latest development within Gwynedd Council’s 21st Century Schools Programme, providing fourteen classrooms, two ALN classrooms, a nursery, Cylch Meithrin and a large hall, along with a number of other teaching spaces, staff and administration areas.
The scheme was delivered through unprecedented times, with construction works paused on site in March and April due to COVID-19. The site was reopened shortly afterwards and the site team and supply chain worked hard in accordance with Welsh Government guidance to successfully complete the scheme to a high standard.
The design team and contractor have delivered the project to a BIM Level 2 standard, requiring high levels of collaboration to ensure full design coordination and minimise issues later on site. COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) data is now being produced for the building, providing a detailed record of the equipment and products installed, which will help support the Facilities Management team in their long-term role over the lifetime of the building.
