The Higher Education Centre at Coleg Cambria’s Connah’s Quay campus has been completed, providing a state-of-the-art facility for students enrolled at Swansea University undertaking engineering placements at the nearby Airbus factory in Broughton.

Designed and constructed within a very tight timescale due to funding requirements, the scheme achieved planning approval in September 2015, and started on site at the beginning of 2016. Built by local contractor’s Wynne Construction, the new building provides lecture rooms, lab spaces, computer suites, social spaces and a high-tech video-conferencing room to enable communication with Swansea University’s main campus. Interior design proposals were developed through a computer generated fly-through of the building, which helped convey the scheme and enabled feedback from key staff members.
