Work has begun on energy efficiency improvements to the Four Acre Estate in St. Helens. Ainsley Gommon Architects have been working alongside Helena Housing on the Estate since 2007 when a five to ten year improvement plan for the area was produced. More recently, funding has become available from the ‘Community Energy Saving Programme’ (CESP) to enable works to be undertaken to improve energy efficiency standards and reduce fuel bills on the Estate.
Most of the houses will benefit from a new external insulation render system, improving both the thermal performance of the homes and external appearance. Consulation events were held where residents were encouraged to get involved, helping to choose the render colours for the blocks of terraced houses. The improvements will also include repairs to boundary fences helping to improve the general amenity of the area.
