Development Overview

Project Overview
This bespoke new build project in Carmarthenshire was delivered for First Choice Housing Association (FCHA) to provide high-quality, specialist accommodation. The development involved the regeneration of a former agricultural site, replacing an empty cow shed with a modern, inclusive home designed specifically to meet the needs of tenants requiring full wheelchair accessibility.

Inclusive Design & High Performance
The primary design objective was to create a space that maximizes independence while achieving exceptional thermal performance. The building is fully insulated and kitted with solar panels, allowing it to exceed the Welsh Government target for EPC A.

The internal layout is carefully optimized for accessibility, ensuring ease of movement throughout the property. By combining robust modern construction with a fabric-first approach, the scheme provides a comfortable, low-energy environment that reduces long-term running costs for the occupants.

Landscape & Sustainable Drainage (SuDS)
A key feature of the site is the communal garden, which integrates a sustainable drainage (SuDS) strategy. The design includes a raingarden populated with non-toxic, native plants and hedgerows. This functional landscape not only manages surface water runoff to protect the home and neighboring properties during heavy rainfall but also creates a high-quality outdoor amenity space that promotes well-being and biodiversity.
