Development Overview

Grŵp Cynefin and Clwyd Alyn are working collaboratively and to build new affordable homes at Canol Cae, with the site split by a small meandering stream. The development comprises 39 general needs and 2 assisted living homes and is being supported with a housing grant from Welsh Government. Located on the Western edge of Penrhyndeudraeth, close to Porthmadog and the border of Eryri National Park.

The proposed housing mix comprises: 20No 2 bed, 9No 3 bed, 1No 4 Bed Houses, 8No. 1 bed Flats, 1No. 2 bed Bungalow, 1No 6 bed with Assisted Living and 1No. 4 bed Wheelchair Bungalow Assisted Living. In-keeping with the semi-rural character of the surroundings of the site being on the edge of the town. A sense of openness with generous public space and permeability is created in the centre of the site that corresponds to the location of overhead easements and services.

The scheme has positive frontages and elevational treatments designed to be sympathetic to the typical local residential properties in the nearby town. The character and materiality is maintained by traditional pitched roof forms and domestically scaled fenestration while creating interest and variation. There are open aspects looking over roads and the ‘village green’ and in a prime location with views towards Eryri National Park.
