Development Overview

Bowker Street is a sustainably designed residential scheme of 19 no. new dwellings for social rent for Contour Homes. The project provides thirteen 2 bed 4 person houses and six 3 bed 5 person houses. Part of the scheme is designed to comply with the AECB (The Association of Environment Conscious Building) Silver Standard, which aims to create high-performance buildings with a focus on achieving high levels of insulation and air tightness, reduced thermal bridging to create improved sustainability in the design and construction.

The dwellings have been built on a land-locked sloping site in the Broughton area of Salford, which formerly housed flats, a school and a Methodist Church. Each property is designed integrally with its own private amenity space and access to a secure shed.

These dwellings incorporate a MVHR system and take into account the positioning of the site to utilise solar gains. The overall energy usage of these homes should be significantly reduced.

The remainder of the scheme is designed to achieve compliance with Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, Lifetime Homes and Design Quality Indicators. The houses are also designed with a fabric first approach to avoid the need for additional renewable technologies.

The elevations incorporate a contrasting brick and render finish with a feature surround around the principle front windows.
