Development Overview

High quality short term/emergency accommodation for homeless families and single people in a safe and secure environment, developed in partnership by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association and Flintshire County Council.

The development of 15 flats and a warden house is on the site of a former Victorian Work House which was being used as a hostel, but the existing building was cramped and fell short of the modern living standards.

Built around a sheltered parking court and a large beech tree, the new dwellings are designed in three connected ‘clusters’ with shared entrances and facilities including a Communal Lounge, Laundry and Counseling suite.

As the scheme provides short term accommodation it had to be very robust with finishes chosen carefully for durability. A variety of external materials have been used to reduce the scale of the elevations and avoid an institutional appearance.
